Project: Youngs Homes, Snettisham
Company: Stewart Milne Timber Systems
Sector: Residential
Technology: Timber Frame
Overview:
Stewart Milne Timber Systems’ innovative new build system, Sigma II, a fabric first solution to create mass market Code Level Four homes, has been used to complete a development in Snettisham, Norfolk.
The project consisted of 15 units of two-storey houses for Youngs Homes on behalf of Flagship Housing Developments. The aim was to achieve first-class energy saving insulation and air tightness, as well as cost-efficiencies in terms of offsite prefabrication. The solution they were looking for also had to be sufficiently adaptable to suit a variety of external finishes, window detailing and integration of services.
Project Type/Application:
Stewart Milne Timber Systems’ Sigma II product met these requirements through utilising space stud technology to vastly improve thermal bridging; and creating pre-insulated, closed external wall panels, filled with blown polystyrene beads, which provide high thermal performance and 100 percent full fill of all voids within the panel. In addition a pre-formed service zone cavity on the internal face of the external walls allowed services to be easily fitted without cutting and notching.
Outcome/Results/Success Factor:
All 15 units were erected ahead of the five-week build programme. Subsequent inspection and testing of the erected units has confirmed the high level of accuracy of manufacture, panel fit and the incorporation of airtightness detailing measures.
