When asked to comment for Housebuilder on fabric first, Andrew Orriss, chief operating officer at the Structural Timber Association (STA), says: “The STA has always advocated a fabric firstapproach as the first step to reducing energy consumption and delivering net zero. Energy efficient fabric doesn’t always mean thicker walls and with timber frame insulation can be ‘packed in’ to avoid encroaching on the property footprint. Timber frame is an easy way to achieve a fabric first approach.”
