Peter Blunt – CHAIR
Managing Director, Innovare Systems
As Chairman of the STA, Pete drives focus on setting and achieving a high bar for standards across the timber industry, while seeking better ways to simplify offsite construction, collaborate and grow the market.
As Managing Director of Innovare Systems, the only SIP provider in the UK to design, engineer, manufacture, deliver and install their own systems. Since its launch in 2007, it has an impressive track record of delivery, winning several awards for projects and product innovation.
Lawrence Young – VICE CHAIR
Director, Randek Ltd
Lawrence has spent his career in the construction sector, leading Young Black as CEO. He has been a passionate driver for sustainable timber building and has re-joined the STA Board to support growth in the market as the industry strives to deliver significant volumes of new homes.
Lawrence is a driver of change and improvement and is also Director at Randek, the leading provider of innovative production systems and equipment for housing production.
Alex Goodfellow
CEO, Donaldson Offsite
With 30 years’ experience in housebuilding, design and manufacturing, Alex has spearheaded adoption of MMC across the UK. As CEO of Donaldson Offsite, part of the Donaldson Group, he leads the largest timber manufacturing group in the UK offsite / MMC sector.
As Chair of CTI (Confederation of Timber Industries) his ambition is to advance timber systems through use of PMV, automation and low carbon building. Alex is former Chair of the STA and Director of Offsite Solutions Scotland.
ANDREW CARPENTER
Chief Executive Officer, STA
As CEO of the STA, Andrew’s goal is to expand the UK structural timber sector through collaboration across wider construction industry groups. Andrew is passionate about reducing our carbon footprint and creating opportunities for more sustainable building.
From his early role at construction giant CRH, to his role as Chief Executive of Constructing Excellence South West, Andrew’s focus is on MMC and net zero.
Andrew is a member of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero Board. He is CEO of Constructing Excellence Midlands and is leading as Secretariat on the DEFRA and industry Timber in Construction Roadmap, designed to further the use of structural timber within the construction industry.
Dominic Lyon
Director of Sustainable Real Estate Gallagher
Domonic is a net zero fanatic. He brings business expertise in the insurance sector, providing insights and direction on sustainable investment.
Dominic is Executive Director and Sustainability champion within Gallagher’s London insurance market Specialty division. Gallagher are the third largest insurance broker in the world, with $10bn of annual revenues and presence in 130 countries.
Dominic specialises in supporting large, often global businesses with insurance solutions, as well as advising and designing tailored programmes. Dominic’s role within sustainability involves advising on the risk and insurance implications of their journeys towards net zero. As well as leading on discussions within the STA around insurance and warranty providers, Dominic is the chair of the Government’s Timber in Construction Insurance Working Group. Furthermore, he sits on the advisory board of TDUK.
Susanne Rudenstam
Managing Director, Swedish Wood
Susanne drives innovation in the use of structural timber, and spearheading Industrial building in timber, sustainably. She believes the efficient use of resources is the only way towards cost-effectiveness and reducing carbon.
Susanne is also CEO of the Swedish Wood Building Council and is responsible for the operations within Swedish Wood Construction and is also responsible for the international work within Wood Construction.
Nic Clarke
Managing Director, KLH
Nic’s role on the Board is working to deliver the Government’s Timber in Construction Roadmap, as chair of the Safety Subgroup.
Nic also leads on the development of the STA Durability Workbook which will provide design teams with a working platform for identifying and mitigating durability in timber structures.
Nic has been involved with the recent CLT testing programme researching large scale compartment fire testing.
Nic has previously served as Chairman of the STA. As Managing Director of KLH UK, pioneers in the production of cross laminated timber, delivering innovation through sustainable construction. As a part of his role for KLH, Nic has travelled to America, Canada, New Zealand & Brazil to promote the use of CLT.
Andrew Orriss
Chief Operating Officer, STA
Andrew is responsible for the delivery and development of the STA’s quality and competency assurance programme, STA Assure. This innovative programme is at the heart of the Structural Timber industry driving and advancing quality standards.
Andrew has broad experience of zero carbon, offsite construction and sustainable building.
Andrew has also been active involved in various “think tank” sessions with NHBC, BuildOffsite, Building Research Establishment, Zero Carbon Hub, CITB, Build UK, relating to use of innovative building materials and processes to improve the construction industry.
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. He was previously Managing Director of Innovare Systems and past Chair of the UK SIPs Association. Andrew was also responsible for managing the SIG Plc BIM Project seeking digital opportunities from this building process.
Paul Newman
Technical Director, STA
Paul has recently joined the Board of the STA at a critical time for the sector where there is a clear opportunity for growth in the use of timber-based methods of construction with strong sustainability credentials but also significant technical challenges.
Paul has 30 years’ experience within the timber and construction industries following time as a lecturer at London Guildhall University. Paul has also held senior roles at Kingspan Group plc leading pioneering projects that delivered high performance homes at scale.
Richard Baldwin
Construction Director, Walker Timber
Richard leads on skills and training within the STA, working with organisations to develop strategies to close the skills gaps and encourage new entrants to the construction sector. His role is critical in advancing training and development for members and the wider industry while identifying opportunities to improve our skills base.
Richard has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry with 20 years expertise in contract management. Richard is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building.
Brian Skilton
Managing Director, Roe Timber
Brian leads on STA Assure alongside Andrew Orriss, who leads on quality assurance, driving excellence in our quality accreditation programme for members and working for greater certification and standards across the industry.
As Managing Director of Roe Timber Frame, Brian believes in accreditation and advancement of quality and performance and uses his expertise to drive continuous improvement across both Roe Timber and STA members.
Mark Stevenson
Director. Elsworth Projects Ltd
Mark Stevenson is a highly experienced construction and housebuilding professional with over 30 years of expertise in project management and construction leadership.
As the owner of Elsworth Projects Limited, he specialises in helping individuals create bespoke self-build homes. Previously, Mark served as Managing Director of Kingspan Engineered Timber Systems, overseeing leading self build businesses like Kingspan Timber Solutions and Potton.
Mark’s influence extends to national policy, where, as Chair of the National Custom and Self Build Association (NaCSBA), he contributed to the Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Act of 2015 and advocates for the custom and self build industry. He is also a board advisor to Ecologic SIPs Ltd, chairs Arkwood Developments Ltd and serves on the board of the Structural Timber Association.
An MBA graduate from Loughborough University, Mark is a trusted voice in self-build housing, frequently contributing to Homebuilding & Renovating and Build It magazines as well as the National Self Build & Renovating Centre.
