Knight Designs was founded in 2019 by Toby Knight after 17 years in the Timber Frame industry as a Designer, Technical Manager and Technical Director for respected companies. Knight Designs was set up to offer a professional, responsive and friendly consultancy service to the Timber Frame industry. Our background let’s us understand all scales of projects from self builds to multi unit sites, care homes to apartment blocks and all the nuances in design associated with each. Having managed design works for £12m per annum of frames we have a robust planning and quality procedure that let’s us manage your projects effectively. We understand projects from a cost point of view but always keeping the factory and erect teams in mind.

Timber Frame Design
Using the latest AutoCAD and Consultec Design software we are able to offer detailed design with the appropriate CADCAM outputs where required. We believe the devil is in the detail and look to provide information to enable site operatives to work autonomously. Although we do not currently offer in house engineering we work closely with industry leading timber frame engineers and will source and manage this aspect for you.

General Consultancy
When we are contracted to a client we consider ourselves a part of your team. We offer technical advice to all of our clients. We can advise on structural solutions at the estimating stage, attend pre contract meetings to aid sales, design team meetings or provide secondary checking service to your timber frame designs.

Design Checking & Site Inspections
Timber frames structures can be complex and although they fit geometrically they may have design, manufacturing or erect errors that could cause issues later on if left unaddressed. We offer a comprehensive inspection service that involves a desktop analysis of all design drawings prior to a site visit to undertake the inspection. This is then all summarised in an easy to follow detailed report.
