Pitlochry – Perthshire

JML SIPs was approached by a client seeking a solution for their exposed plot, perched high above the picturesque town of Pitlochry in Perthshire. The site boasts wide views north through the Tummel Valley, and the client was keen to maximise this in their new home. Thermal efficiency and low energy consumption were also high on the client’s list of priorities for their new home, in conjunction with large open plan living areas and vaulted ceilings. This list of requirements made SIPs a natural choice for the construction material.

The exposed hilltop location of the plot demanded a superior structural strength to cope with the wind load and to guarantee the finished home would be airtight. The unpredictability of the weather on-site also meant that a structure that could be made wind and watertight quickly and efficiently was a key priority.

Additionally, the client was working to a tight timeframe and needed to move in quickly, making the build speed an important consideration. However, this couldn’t come at the expense of the detailing across the building. Elements such as the larch cladding had to be given particular focus in order to achieve a high-quality finish.

JML SIPs worked closely with the architect and engineers to design, supply and erect the custom SIPs kit on-site. The team also sourced, supplied and fitted the Nordvest windows which were crucial to achieving the client’s vision and maximising the beautiful views across the valley. In addition, JML SIPs carried out the roofing work, using Steadmans corrugated sheet roof materials, and fitted the Russwood larch rainscreen cladding with painstaking accuracy and skill. Their commendable workmanship is clearly evident in the finished product.
