Essex University - Project Profile

Designed to BREEAM Excellent standard by Lewis Hickey Architects, the site comprises of 228 bedrooms across 19 four-storey townhouses. Stewart Milne Timber Systems was selected for the timber frame contract, which is part of a wider project known as ‘The Meadows’, part of the University’s Knowledge Gateway site.

The University of Hertfordshire is one of the region’s largest employers with over 2,700 staff and a turnover of more than £238 million. The community of over 25,300 students reside in accommodation based in Hatfield, consisting of Bellingham, Spalding and Maclean Courts - all based on the College Lane campus.

Under the banner of Believe in Better Buildings (BiBB), BSkyB’s new educational facility for graduates, apprentices and staff training, reflects the company’s sustainable aspirations. Based at the Campus at Osterley, West London, the 3,800m2 development encompasses a three storey linear building with an additional storey accommodating a restaurant and roof terrace - all providing an inviting multi-functional amenity.

Derbyshire School, Mackworth

Pasquill

Pasquill, the UK’s largest supplier of roof trusses, has manufactured and delivered metal web floor cassettes to accommodate some 1200sq.m. at a new school being built in Derbyshire. Over 800 Posi-Joists were made at Pasquill’s Chorley, Bodmin and Taunton manufacturing sites, before being assembled into cassettes at Chorley, ready for delivery to site at Reigate Primary School in Mackworth.


 
University of Essex

University of Essex

Plans were passed in 2013 for the construction of a three storey educational building and a single storey MBA lecture theatre, scheduled to be opened in the autumn of 2015 at the University of Essex. The build comprised a B & K Structures, European partner of the X-LAM Alliance, optimised hybrid structure of glulam, CLT, steel and prefabricated wall cassettes.

The development of Pontprennau School is the result of an investment of more than £7million from the City of Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme. It will also create greater economies and efficiencies for learning environments through better use of resources by providing a sustainable education system that meets national building standards and reduces the recurrent costs and carbon footprint of buildings.


 
The Ballet School

The Ballet School

The Ballet School is a bespoke student housing project located within the densely populated Woodlands Conservation Area in the west end of Glasgow. The project comprises the conversion of a Grade B Listed sandstone tenement and the construction of two new apartment blocks to provide enhanced living accommodation for up to 103 students attending universities across the city.

Pasquill

Pasquill was required to manufacture and deliver over 500 metal web floor cassettes plus fifty 14.5m wide roof trusses for a new school under construction at Kidsgrove in Staffordshire.
