Joisted timber floors are typically designed on the basis of serviceability limits, which for most engineering calculations are based on static deflection checks only. Within the Eurocode (EC5) design standards, compliance with serviceability requirements for timber floors also requires a vibration performance check as well as a deflection check.

It is a legal a requirement that all fasteners used for structural applications must be CE marked. However, there are examples of non CE marked products being used on construction sites. Fasteners must also be CE marked for the correct end use application and there are further examples of CE marked fasteners being used in more aggressive environments than their intended end use environment. The purpose of this technical note is to provide guidance to users about how to specify and recognise correctly CE marked fasteners.

 

Technical Consultant Note 2016 – 7.2 - Fasteners for non-wood based sheathing boards

A technical summary to provide members with an overview of the considerations needed when specifying fasteners to be used with non-wood based boards. This compliments Technical Note 7.1 – “Corrosion protection of fasteners for wood based sheathing” and Advice Note 12.1 – “Specifying metal fasteners”. Both publications are supported by the Power Fasteners Association.
